ANKARA, Turkey — U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is expected to meet his Pakistani counterpart, Nafees Zakaria, to discuss efforts to secure Zakaria’s release from U.S.-run prisons, officials familiar with the discussions said Tuesday.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the meeting was not public.
U.N. special rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, Yara Karim, said in a statement Tuesday that the U.N.-backed Pakistan Human Rights Commission is seeking a “full and transparent” investigation into the July drone strike on a tribal leader in the northwestern tribal area of North Waziristan.
Karim said he “deeply” regrets the death of his brother-in-law, a journalist and activist named Hossain, who was killed in a drone strike in Pakistan’s Swat Valley on July 9.
The U.K.-based human rights watchdog also said Hossains death was caused by a U.M.
S Predator drone strike.
